StackAnywhere 1.1 Released

StackAnywhere 1.1Today sees the release of a long-awaited update to StackAnywhere, the Android app for the Stack Exchange network (which includes sites such as Stack Overflow and Super User). This version brings the UI up-to-date for Android 4.x users and also moves the app onto the latest version of the StackExchange API. As well as dozens of minor fixes and refinements included in version 1.1, the move to the latest API opens up opportunities for new functionality in future version versions.

As prevously, StackAnywhere is available in two editions. The ad-supported Silver Edition is free to download and use. If you don’t want to see any adverts in the app, you can upgrade to the Gold Edition.

Introducing StackAnywhere

StackAnywhereIf you follow Rectangular Software on Twitter, or if you’ve visited our website in the last few days, you’ll have noticed a new addition to our collection of Android apps. StackAnywhere is an Android client for the Stack Exchange network.

Stack Exchange is a family of question and answer sites that began with the massively popular Stack Overflow site for programmers and has since expanded to cover dozens of other topics. There is a Stack Exchange site for questions about cooking, one for Android users, one for photography, and several others with more being created all the time via a community-driven process.

StackAnywhere delivers these sites in a package better suited to browsing on a mobile device. All Stack Exchange sites are supported, including meta and beta sites. In addition to being able to browse and search each site, StackAnywhere includes new answer notifications and a widget for displaying a user’s reputation and badges along with their daily reputation change. The widget also provides one-touch access to a user’s full profile including all of their questions and answers.

StackAnywhereBest of all, we are making StackAnywhere available free-of-charge (supported by unobtrusive adverts). You can download it now from the Android Market. As this is the first public version of StackAnywhere we’d be interested in your feedback (leave a message here or contact us).

Please note that StackAnywhere does not currently support the posting of new questions and answers because this functionality is not yet provided by the Stack Exchange API. We hope to be able to add this functionality in the future.
