Flagpole, our simple flag recognition game, was one of Rectangular Software’s first Android apps. We recently moved it from the Brain & Puzzle Games section of the Android Market to the Education section. To underscore this new focus we’ve given it a bit of an overhaul for version 2.0.

In addition to tweaking the UI in a few places (fast scroll option, new preferences screen), the major new feature is the Flag Browser. The ability to browse through the full set of 232 flags is something several people have asked for. You can use the thumbnail view to study the flags at your leisure or to identify a flag that you’ve seen somewhere. When you select one of the flag thumbnails the details screen is displayed with a large view of the flag and an informative description. Hopefully, by learning the reasons for the colours and symbols and the history behind them, you will more easily recognise the flags in future.
The Flag Browser is exclusive to the full version of Flagpole, but fortunately that costs a mere 99 pence (approximately US$1.58 or €1.17) from Google’s shiny new web-based Android Market. If you just want the game and don’t want to pay, the ad-supported Flagpole Lite offers the 6 continental challenges from the full version of Flagpole (upgrade for the Whole World challenge and Flag Browser).
