Beep Test for Android Improvements

Several Beep Test for Android users have suggested an enhancement to the app to make it easier to keep track of what level you are on while running, without having to look at the screen. Specifically, Android’s speech capabilities mean that we can do better than the three short beeps that indicate the start of a new level. Starting with version 2.2 (available today from Android Market and Amazon Appstore), the Beep Test app now announces the level number in addition to playing the beeps, which means you no longer have to keep count for yourself.

This version also improves the experience on Honeycomb tablets. There is more that we can do in this respect (a landscape layout for instance), but these updates are a step in the right direction.

Beep Test for Android Scoring Changes

Version 2.1 of our Beep Test for Android application is now on the Android Market, which merits a blog post because there is one significant change that might cause confusion. You are now fitter. Or at least that’s how it will appear since we have changed the way that scores are presented.

This makes no difference to you if you only ever performed your Beep Tests using our app; it just means that the numbers are slightly higher than they were previously (your saved scores are automatically converted on upgrade so that they are consistent with any new scores that you generate).

Where the change does make a very important difference is if you were comparing scores from our app with scores generated using other Beep Test software or procedures, or comparing against specific fitness targets set by certain organisations. The way that we were presenting scores previously was not consistent with these third-party scores. Our scores were one level too low because they displayed the last fully completed level rather than the highest level reached. We have made the change to make your scores more readily comparable with scores from other sources.

Android Beep Test Updated to Support Multiple Runners

Beep Test 2.0Today we have released version 2.0 of our Beep Test multi-stage fitness test app for Android.  This delivers the number one most requested feature – support for multiple runners in the same test. Sports coaches asked for this functionality so that they can test several athletes at once.

If you’re an existing Beep Test user you should get an update notification from the Android Market. We’ve tried to retain the ease of use from version 1.2 while enabling you to record scores for several individuals at once if you so choose. If you have existing scores stored on your phone, these will be preserved when you upgrade but they will now be stored against a runner called “Default Runner” (you can change the name to your name by long-pressing on the name in the runner’s list and selecting “Edit Name” from the context menu). If you want to add more runners to the test press the “Menu” key and select “Add Runner” from the application menu.

Beep Test 2.0To run a test you just need to check each runner that you would like to include and press “Start”.  While the test is running each runner has their own stop button so that separate scores can be recorded for each.

The update app also includes a new scores screen that allows you to view all scores from a particular date or to view the history for an individual.

Version 2.0 of Beep Test for Android is available now on the Android Market and costs £1.49 / $2.49 / €1.69.

Beep Test 1.2 – VO2 Max Calculations and 30% Cheaper

Beep Test screenshotOur Beep Test application for Android has been one of our best selling apps and now we’ve made it 30% cheaper at just £1.39. What’s more, the new version 1.2 released a couple of days ago now includes VO2 max calculations so that you can get an approximate measure of your aerobic capacity from your Beep Test score.

Beep Test 1.1

It’s about time that we updated our Android Beep Test application. The Beep Test app is used to perform multi-stage fitness tests using your Android device to regulate your speed.  In version 1.1 we’ve added the ability to share your scores via e-mail, SMS, Facebook, Twitter and any other communications tools you have installed. After all, what’s the point of getting fit if you can’t brag about your physical prowess? Additionally, if you are running Android 2.2 or later you can now install the app on your SD card to avoid unnecessarily filling up internal storage, although the application doesn’t take up much space anyway.
